i think it may be a case of self discovery and acceptance, cause like, in discovering one's sexuality you're bound to find some other stuff along the way
it's likely that the whimsy is pretty much always there, as in, heterosexual folks have got it too, but they're either unaware of it or unwilling to engage with it

iunno, might be drawing some wrong conclusions here, but, it's a possible answer...
