@Starcross a way i think they could have kept it going is to do a smeary blur in addition to the crop
that way you still get the colors, the vibe of the album art, but without too much digital unpleasantness
mobile operating systems used to be so much more fun, kinda miss the days when they didn't need to be so serious...
