the discord situation, possible alternatives from a nerd's standpoint
discord got you down?looking for a new place to call home?
try xmpp, irc, mumble/murmur, heck, even matrix
look at the incredible already mature chat services we've already got before looking to the shiny new thing that looks like discord
xmpp supports so much that discord does, it's basically only stickers and custom emoji it's missing
if folks want it and push for those features, xmpp can get those as a protocol extension too
irc is great for textual services, and can even be bridged into matrix and xmpp
you can use a bridge or a bouncer and even get chat history :D
pair it with mumble/murmur and you've got a chat service with soo much higher quality than discord (and probably look alikes)
even matrix, for all its quirks and pain points (syncing, failed to decrypt 👀) is worth using, can do voice and video, share files, everything you might need in a chat service
support and use what we've already got, it's so much better than it's often made out to be ^^
