i think i've gotta visit the uk at some point
i watch some folks' videos from there and they've shown off fray bentos pies and like, those just seem like such a nice treat
there's other reasons, sure, cities, culture, history, what have you
but also.. canned pies

re: question on modern server infrastructure @ww and that just made redis/compatibles click in my head too
it operates like a sorta shared ram bank for all those containers/processes if i'm understanding right

got me kinda wanting to build a cluster, no idea what i'd use it for, but seeing little glimpses of the technology at play is just so neat!

re: question on modern server infrastructure @ww ah, that's cool!
between this and the other answers, i can certainly see why it's so prevalent now
modern server stuff is absolutely insane and i barely understand any of it ^^
the clustering and dynamic spin up/down in particular, it's kinda wild that kinda stuff can work at all

re: question on modern server infrastructure @eri ooo, i hadn't exactly considered the scalability aspect of it either
i wonder if the selfhosted options support clustering or something of that nature

i don't ever see my services getting quite that big, but still interesting to think about for sure

re: question on modern server infrastructure @prettygood huh..
i suppose that makes the selfhosting point of it make sense too
get a cheap spinning rust vps with bucketloads of storage, just run minio or something and point all your services at it... think i kinda get the point now ^^

reframed my thinking on it a bit, thanks!

question on modern server infrastructure so like, what is the point of s3 anyway?
is it just to be able to get more iops at the cost of latency?

cause i'm noticing that just about every service i've set up in a long time supports it and i suppose i'm just kinda struggling to figure out why you'd want it over local disk storage
bit like sqlite vs a database server? only reason i can see for wanting a database server is to put it on a different machine, but like, we've already got a half dozen different protocols for network storage, what does s3 do that those don't?

@smolcasm if you're up for something quite different, you might give chimera linux a go
it's doing a lot of things differently from most distros, musl libc, bsd userland and using
apk as the package manager
it's been really stable in my case, but you do end up using flatpak a lot more than other distros as there isn't a super huge amount packaged for it yet

@darkroom probably my favorite of what you've posted from this batch
there's something about your shots being warm toned (is it the film doing that?) that when bright blues and purples get into the scene makes for magnificent contrast

@Paradox it's good, my e-reader takes plain text files, quick copy paste does the trick ^^
it's kinda crazy how there's a whole file type with formatting and wild html stuff when most authors don't seem to use much more than plain text
we could honestly have a cbz-esque format that'd work pretty well for most books, perhaps have some light markdown compatibility for headings and such
:neocat_think:

uhh, anyway, i got sidetracked there
thanks for the offer to convert them though <3

mild spoilers @Paradox certainly liking what i've read so far (c. 1)
the first few paragraphs or so kind of read like addendum files for SCPs (087 came to mind), great descriptive writing there ^^
also, dialog heavy writing, very enjoyable

the magic aspect is super intriguing, it's cool that it works in opposition(?) to the physics based realm
did you have a mechanic in mind for how it works?
always have been a fan of rules-based magic, but of course, artistic freedom is way more important than reader suggestions

gonna have to copy the other chapters into my e-reader :p
something about fiction reads so much easier for me when it's paginated

abuse the drugs for long enough and the drugs may just abuse back

big truck annoyance @Velveteen but trucks are sooo much more practical than a little sedan that can likely carry twice as much cargo, burning half the fuel and not blinding everyone going down the road

really. don't. get peoples desire for the things. like, they're not even that much better in the snow than a modern awd sedan or hatchback, and they're often so much more expensive, not to mention just how much more dangerous they are for pedestrians.. ugh
like, the once a year one might need to haul or tow something, it's so much better to just rent a truck

@Paradox oh yeah, that does sound like pretty prime content for shitposting with, not sure how i'd morph it yet, but i feel another round of the mastodon verification bot style edits is more than due :3
thanks!

feminizing hrt question for those that take spironolactone for androgen management, how critical is the 'take with or without food, but take the same way every time' tidbit in the instructions?
all i can find online is that food affects how it's absorbed, which i can understand being important for some of its uses, but not necessarily for androgen management...
here in a few weeks, i'll have an am and a pm dose of spiro, and i tend to eat only in the am around the time i'd be dosing... i suppose i could hold off on eating in the morning, but i'm generally pretty hungry straight off work...

iunno, not such a huge deal (hence why i'm not asking my doctor), more of a curiosity than anything
